How to Clean a Mirror Without Windex – 2 Easy, Streak-Free Ways

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a special glass cleaner to wash your windows or mirrors. Below, I show you how to clean a mirror without Windex – 2 different ways. Plus, you can even use plain water.

How to Clean a Mirror Without Windex Using a Squeegee

1. Use a Squeegee – How to Clean a Mirror Without Leaving Streaks:

First of all, my favorite way to clean bathroom mirrors is using a squeegee. However, you don’t want to buy the super-cheap kind that costs a couple of bucks because they will leave streaks.

Mirror Squeegee with Stainless Steel Handle and Silicone Blade

This all-purpose shower squeegee is made of stainless steel with a precision silicone blade. In other words, it has an even blade design to prevent marks and smudges while swiping.

The squeegee blade hugs the mirror surface with its firm, yet flexible shape. As a result, it can remove all excess water in a single swipe. And, your mirrors dry fast.

Consequently, you can get clearer, streak-free mirrors in minutes (or seconds) without having to use toxic or expensive cleaners. No need to pull out a bunch of cleaning supplies and scrubbing cloths. This is a simple job.

Mini Microfiber Lint-Free Cloths for Cleaning Mirror Edges

Note: Sometimes my squeegee can’t remove all water from the mirror edges. So, I simply use mini lint-free microfiber cloths (designed to clean eyeglasses).

They are small, cheap and re-usable (and good for cleaning computer/tablet/phone screens too), but you can also use regular microfiber towels for this.

Furthermore, the small, lightweight handle is ergonomically designed for a comfortable no-slip grip. This makes mirror-cleaning even easier, so it won’t feel like such a chore.

I prefer the smaller 10″ length (you can also get 12″ or 14″ sizes) because it’s easier to maneuver. That said, if you want to also squeegee glass shower doors, you may prefer the longer blades as they can cover more area.

Note: Yes, you can replace the blades without having to buy an entire new squeegee. This saves you money – plus silicone blades are inexpensive and last a long time. Get 10″ replacement blades here.

2. Microfiber Cloths – How to Clean a Mirror with Just Water:

These mirror-cleaning cloths are not your typical microfiber material. They feel thinner and not furry like the softer towels.

However, they still “magnetically” lift, grab and trap dust and small dirt particles from the surface that you’re cleaning. Plus, they don’t leave streaks or lint behind.

Simply dampen the cloths, ring out excess water and use. No additional cleaning products are needed. These are quick, easy and cost-effective.

On top of that, these microfiber towels last 5+ years. Just throw them in the machine machine (no fabric softener) and air dry them. To make them last longer without losing their effectiveness, wash the microfiber together without other fabrics.

This 10-pack contains 16″x16″ towels, so you can keep a couple in the bathroom, the kitchen, the car, etc.. The streak-free towels also work great on stainless steel and chrome appliances and fixtures.

A Glass/Mirror Cleaner that Doesn’t Contain
Ammonia, Vinegar or Toxic Chemicals:

If you want an effective glass cleaner that doesn’t contain ammonia, vinegar or toxic chemicals, check out MiracleSpray for Glass. It can make cleaning mirrors easier than using just water, and it doesn’t contain a long list of strange ingredients.

Miracle Glass Cleaner Spray or Wipes - No Ammonica, Vinegar or Toxic Chemicals

Actually, the only ingredient listed is 2-propanol, which is commonly known as Isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol. You can also get this product as easy-to-use, disposable cleaning wipes.

Use the spray with either the squeegee or microfiber cloths above to get streak-free shine. And with the Miracle Wipes, you don’t need any additional cleaning tools.

The non-toxic spray or wipes work well at quickly removing smudges, fingerprints, water marks or greasy/oily marks. And, the solution breaks down residue better than plain water, and the alcohol makes it fast-drying.

Plus, you can use it on windows, shower doors, glass tables or car windshields as well as bathroom mirrors. Not to mention, this simple, gentle product will not damage furniture or finishes like harsh cleaners can.

Alternatively, you could make your own homemade glass cleaner or mix 1 part Isopropyl alcohol with 3-4 parts water. Buy your own spray bottles and save some more money.
