How to Clean Window Screens – Without Removing Them

Knowing how to clean windows without streaks can save you a lot of time and frustration. However, dirty screens can make clean windows look dirty. Here’s how to clean window screens – the easy way.

How to Clean Window Screens the Easy Way

1. Cleaning Window Screens with a Dust Brush:

First, you can use a window screen brush. These are designed specifically to pick up dust and cling to it, thus lifting it away from mesh screens. (ie. pollen, cottonwood fuzz, plant debris)

Removing dust and pollen build-up (although not always noticeable), can help screens look more transparent. Not to mention, your windows will look cleaner as a result.

The brush fibers are long enough to reach between the mesh crevices and effectively clean between the holes. Therefore, you don’t have to remove the window screen – and you can clean screens from the inside too!

Plus, you don’t have to pull out the garden hose or pressure washer and make a big wet mess cleaning your windows. These dry brushes shorten your work time and require less effort too.

In addition, you can use these unique cleaning tools to gently scrub the mesh and dislodge stubborn dirt or grime. Simply wet the brush and add a little soap to make the job easier.

In other words, you don’t have to purchase a second tool. Plus, you can rinse and re-use the brush head the next time you clean your screens.

Note: By the way, brush’s dust-attracting design works well at removing dust from furniture, window sills, countertops, etc.. It’s really versatile.

2. Use Moist Towelettes – Window Screen Cloths:

These are also designed to attract dust, so you don’t have to remove window screens from their frames.

Unlike regular paper towels or rags, these specially-designed towelettes don’t leave lint or dust all over the mesh. Plus, they don’t break apart and disintegrate into small pieces as you use them.

Also, a third option I’ve tried is vacuuming the window screen with a brush head attachment. Although effective, it takes more time (due to the small nozzle) and tends to leave lines on the screen if you’re not thorough. That said, it’s worth a try.
